Nothing beats the anticipation and satisfaction you feel when you know you've made an intelligent decision by picking the winner. However, there are a tremendous number of factors to consider in order to handicap effectively.

The first thing you need is reliable information. TrackMaster is a wholly owned subsidiary of Equibase, the official source of Thoroughbred racing data. Reliable information is still not enough, you have to organize and analyze it. In the past handicappers were forced to collect information from a variety of sources, compile history and stats and then compute and analyze everything. This was a difficult process taking a great deal of time to complete. Even the most experienced and skilled handicapper may miss something or overlook significant angles. In the age of simulcasting and account wagering the ability to process large amounts of information quickly and effectively is vital.

TrackMaster Plus was developed by a team of handicapping experts, statisticians and software engineers to collect, organize and analyze large amounts of data. When you combine your knowledge of the game with TrackMaster Plus and its unparalleled enhanced information and analysis, you will collect more winnings, more often. All the information you need is just a mouse click away. II. How TrackMaster Plus Works

Each TrackMaster Plus data file contains information for all of the races at each track on any given race day. All TrackMaster data originates from Equibase, the parent company of TrackMaster and the horse racing industry's official data source. This means that you get the same reliable information as the track programs like morning line odds, program and post position numbers, along with proprietary information and ratings compiled by TrackMaster.

The TrackMaster Plus software is required to interpret the data files and presents the data in intuitive categories allowing you to sort, mark, hide and compare data. The TrackMaster Plus software is Microsoft Windows compatible and requires an internet connection to download race card data files. TrackMaster Plus data files can also be easily used in spreadsheet and database programs, as well as your own self-written programs.

III. Special Features Of TrackMaster Plus

What does TrackMaster Plus provide that you can't find anywhere else? Here are just a few of the features:

PERFORMANCE INFORMATION AND RATINGS

TrackMaster Plus makes handicapping easier by using a system of ratings that facilitates quick comparisons of the horses in a race.

Snapshot - a quick and comprehensive look at today's race
Speed - reflects how this horse's speed ranks against the other horses in the race
Class - reflects the quality of the races in which the horse has run
Pace - reflects how the stages of the race are likely to be run
Power - a composite rating incorporating speed, class, and pace
Custom Power - set up your own composite rating with weights you choose

CLASS RATINGS

There are two types of Class Ratings in all TrackMaster products.

Each of today's races is assigned a class rating based on the past performances of each of the entrants in a race. This number is an estimate of what Equibase Speed Figure Equibase Speed Figure should win the race provided all the entrants in the race go.

A top class (stakes) race might have a class rating of 120; a $10,000 claiming race might have a class rating of 90. By comparing today's race to each horse's recent races you will know if the horse is moving up or down in class - that is, if he is in an easier or more difficult race than he has been in recently.

The calculation of class rating includes a weight for the track so you can compare class ratings between races at different tracks. An 80 at Aqueduct is equivalent to an 80 at Belmont and an 80 at Philadelphia Park. A horse that has been successful in races with a CR of 90 at Churchill Downs should be competitive in a race with a CR of 90 at Aqueduct.

Equibase Speed Figure EQUIBASE SPEED FIGURES

Equibase Speed Figure Equibase Speed Figures tell you how fast a horse has been running in its recent races. It is based on the horse's actual time and other factors, called variants, such as the condition of the track. A horse who races in top class races might earn a 120 for a good performance; a $10,000 claimer might earn a 90 for an average performance.

The Equibase Speed Figure Equibase Speed Figure is weighted for different tracks, distances and conditions. A horse that runs consistently in the 80s at Laurel Race Course should be competitive with horses that run in the 80s at Philadelphia Park. TrackMaster products display speed and class along with today's distance and surface. You can spot horses that have run higher numbers and higher classes and especially horses that have done their best work at today's distance and on today's surface.

PACE FIGURES & STYLE

Pace figures are computed for each horse at the different points of call just as the Equibase Speed Figure Equibase Speed Figure is calculated. The only difference is that these figures are for the pieces of the race and not the race as a whole. The pace style ratings are simply a numerical measure of where a horse likes to run within a pack of horses in a race, based on a scale of 1 (front) to 9 (back) by averaging the positions a horse has been in each point of call over his past races. In general horses rated 1-2 tend to like to run in the front of the pack; 3-6 mid-pack; and 7-9 in the back. Comparing the early figures to the middle and finish figures, you get an idea of which horses consistently run in front and which come from behind later in a race.

POWER RATINGS

The proprietary TrackMaster Power Rating is an overall indicator of the horse's potential profitability combining the components of speed, class and pace. TrackMaster also provides Power Tables that show historically what combination of power rating margin and odds have produced the highest payoffs.

RECORD AND RETURN ON INVESTMENT (ROI) INFORMATION

Most of the TrackMaster Plus categories show statistics as records.

That is Starts - Win % - Place % - Show % - In The Money % - Return on Investment (positive or negative)

This is a tremendously valuable piece of information, that can't be found anywhere else. Most other services may only show Wins/Starts or Starts-1-2-3. That's fine when you have a record like 3 - 1 - 1 - 0, but what if have 2 trainers and their record with 1st time starts is 216 - 32 - 18 - 14 and 86 - 16 - 12 - 13. Which has a better win percentage? Answer: Trainer A has a win percentage of 14%, while Trainer B has a win percentage of 18%. Now while the Trainer B has a better win%, the real question is who has the better Return on Investment? TrackMaster Plus data will show you in this example, Trainer B may have a +8 ROI, while trainer 2 may have a -14 ROI.

IV. Easy Organization

SELECTIVE DISPLAY

TrackMaster displays data sorted by categories to allow you to compare horses head-to-head. For example, once you have decided that a particular horse is no longer of interest (non-contender) you can hide that horse's information to allow you to focus on the other horses of interest. See ONLY the data on contenders!

GRAPHS

Easy comparisons between horses can be made by graphing the TrackMaster data. These graphs can be created either for viewing or printing. You can display the graph vertically or horizontally.

MATCHUPS

Compare horses coming out of the same races (tandem races).

NOTEBOOK

Shows data you have selected or highlighted for special attention.

COMMENTS

Similar to Notebook, Comments lets you enter in personal notes you may have about each horse. This electronic scratch pad lets you remember important thoughts you may have about a horse or race, possible bets, trouble notes, etc.

V. Other Features And Functions

ODDS CALCULATOR

Allows you to compute what payoffs should be (fair odds). For example, in a Daily Double you pair a horse with 9-5 odds with a horse with 2-1 odds, the payoff odds are 9.5: 1. That is, a $2.00 bet will pay $21. By comparing the Odds Calculator "should pay" with the track's "will pay" you can see if your bet is a good value or not.

DISTANCE AND SURFACE

Speed and Class Ratings are available in many different categories separated by distance and surface.

CLAIMS

If and when a horse was sold or claimed, for how much, and from which trainer it was bought. TrackMaster notes if a horse was claimed in its last start and what the new horse's record is after being claimed and what the new trainer's record is with horses he or she has recently claimed.

LAYOFFS

A horse's record after it has been off for 30 days or more.

PEDIGREE

The horse's sire, dam, dam sire, age and sex. The performance of the sire's and dam's foals: record of foals that have won a race, turf starts, stakes starts, off track starts, foals at first asking and record on the dirt or turf at either a sprint or route distance.

JOCKEYS AND TRAINERS

The recent race records for the jockey when he/she has ridden for this trainer, when the jockey has ridden this horse, and when the trainer has run this horse. The trainer's recent record following long layoffs, after claims, with first and second-time starters, and with two-year-olds. Jockey and Trainer history over the last 10 day and 30 day period as well as their record with post time favorites, horses at odds less than 5-1 or higher than 5-1, different classes of horses (i.e. claiming, allowance) and over a variety of distances and surfaces.

MEDICATION AND EQUIPMENT

This category shows what medication and equipment (if any) were used in each of the horse's past races.
